MATCHING COMPONENTS FOR ENCLOSED HARDWOOD STAIRS

While hardwood staircases may look straightforward, achieving both safety and visual harmony requires precision-crafted components and proper installation.

Each enclosed stair step is completed using three essential elements:

  • A tread plank for the walking surface
  • A nosing along the front edge
  • A riser plank for the vertical face

Vintage Hardwood Flooring offers a complete line of stair tread and riser planks, along with refined Euro square stair nosings for enclosed stairwells, all manufactured in our own facilities. Each component is engineered to perfectly match our hardwood floors in color, texture, and finish, ensuring a cohesive look throughout your space.

What you can expect: precise fit, consistent design, and a polished finish that elevates your staircase and your entire space.

COMPONENTS REQUIRED FOR AN ENCLOSED STAIRCASE

Premium wood stair tread and riser planks

Vintage stair tread and riser planks are crafted using 3/4″ (19 mm) Northern Solid Sawn® engineered hardwood floorboards, offering durability, stability, and long-term performance.

Each plank features a high-performance 3-layer construction:

  • A 4 mm sawn wear layer for lasting beauty
  • A quarter sawn SPF finger-jointed core for superior dimensional stability
  • A wood backing layer for added strength

Precision-milled tongue-and-groove profiles ensure a secure fit with our matchable Euro square stair nosings.

Available in 48″ lengths and 7-3/4 ″ widths, in Oak and White Oak

Premium matchable square stair nosings

Our matchable square stair nosings are perfectly aligned in color, texture, and finish with your Vintage hardwood floors, treads, and risers. Manufactured from the same engineered hardwood materials, they create a smooth, cohesive transition across your staircase.

Designed with clean lines and eased edges, each nosing features a precision-milled tongue and groove profile for an accurate fit. Reinforced joints enhance resistance, while the robust 3-layer engineered construction ensures long-term stability and reliable performance.

DURABLE QUALITY THAT EXTENDS YOUR INVESTMENT

Vintage hardwood stair components are made from the same premium Oak and White Oak species as our hardwood flooring. Designed to withstand high-traffic areas, they deliver lasting strength and visual consistency in residential interiors and light commercial environments.

Protective finishes

Each stair component is finished with exclusive, high-performance coatings designed that resist stains, scratches, and everyday wear. The finishes are supported by a 35-year residential wear-through warranty and a 3-year light commercial wear-through warranty, helping protect your staircase while maintaining its natural beauty over time.

Easy maintenance

Micro bevels on all four sides of each plank create a tighter fit that helps reduce dust and debris buildup between boards. Hardwood stair components require minimal maintenance, typically limited to regular sweeping or vacuuming, making them ideal for busy households and commercial settings.

INSTALLATION OPTIONS FOR ENCLOSED HARDWOOD STAIRCASES

Vintage hardwood stair components can be installed using two approved methods, depending on project requirements and installer preference. Both options ensure a precise fit and a refined finished look when using Vintage tread and riser planks with matchable Euro square stair nosings.

Option 1: Install the riser first

The riser plank is installed first, followed by the tread plank and the stair nosing along the front edge. This method creates a clean, layered transition and is commonly used for enclosed staircases.

Option 2: Install the tread first

The tread plank is installed first, with the stair nosing and riser plank installed afterward. This approach allows for precise alignment and a consistent visual finish across each step.

Both installation methods, when completed with Vintage matchable stair components, deliver safety, durability, and a seamless aesthetic.

Always verify local building code requirements before installation.
